Calling All Musicians!
Audition Information Available for the Following Orchestras!
North Torrance Youth Symphony Orchestra
North Torrance Youth Chamber Orchestra
North Torrance Community Orchestra
Auditions for nTyme’s orchestras are open to all elementary, middle, and high school students. Musicians that are eligible (see eligibility checklist) to audition are asked to download and play the audition pieces and scales. Students can choose an audition piece per instrument (students can audition for multiple orchestras on different instruments), which includes scale information. There may also be a sight reading component to the audition.
Eligibility Requirements:
- At least 3 years experience in instrumental music and 1 year on current instrument.
- String players must be able to perform in Suzuki, Book 3 or above or equivalent.
- Wind players must be able to play 2 octave scales and have played through the second year band book at their school or equivalent.
- Percussion players must be knowledgeable in most percussion instruments (snare, bass drum, cymbals, and auxiliary percussion instruments such as triangle, tambourine, etc) and be prepared to play and read timpani or mallet percussion.
- Dedication to attend rehearsals and performances
- Effort in rehearsals and sectionals
Audition Dates & Appointments:
Mid-year auditions for the 2011-2012 season are being held on January 14, 2012 for the following instruments only:
Elementary & Lower Middle school Level - Violin, Viola, Cello, Bass, Trumpet, Trombone, French Horn, Tuba, Bassoon, Mallets, Percussion
Upper Middle & High School Level - Violin, Viola, Cello, Bass, Trombone, French Horn, Tuba, Bassoon, Mallets
Auditions will be held at Arlington Elementary School. Please email Hiroko Eddow at president@nTyme.org or call 310.720.7624 by January 12, 2012 to make an audition appointment time.
Applications & Audition Parts:
Applications (attached) will be available on www.nTyme.org. Complete the application, make your appointment for your audition by January12, 2012 and practice your music! Please bring your application together with the application fee at the time of your appointment.
Application Fee:
There is a non-refundable audition application fee of $25.00 (per student) which covers music, evaluators' fees, pre-festival adjudicators' fees, and rental of facility. Please submit this fee together with your audition application at the time of your appointment.
Registration:
All participants of the North Torrance Youth Musicians Ensemble (nTyme) are required to register, regardless of group. While we understand this may be new to some, it is necessary so that we have a record of all our students. Membership forms are available on our website.

judges' fees, and rental of the audition venue.

Scales for STRINGS are to be downloaded from the links below marked "String Scales." Scales for all WIND players are to be downloaded from the CBDA website (click on link below). In addition, the following instruments must follow the required scales posted plus the following:
Oboe - play the Eb Major 2 Octaves (link has only 1)
Clarinet - play the F Major 3 Octaves (link has only 2)
Trumpet - play the G Major 2 Octaves (link has only 1)
Trombone - play the F Major 2 Octaves (link has only 1)
